Office Technology
The Office Technology course is a boot camp for the computer programs commonly used in the modern workforce. With a focus on Microsoft Office, students gain an important skill set for employment.
Prerequisites
In order to benefit from the Office Technology course, students must possess a minimum eighth-grade skill level in reading comprehension and a seventh-grade level in Mathematics. Students must also be 18 years of age upon the completion of the program.
Course Description
Course material is split into two main categories: Office Procedures and Office Technologies. The course takes students through keyboarding, a review of various software applications, such as the business uses of the Internet, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, and more.
The Office Technology course is self-paced—students advance according to their abilities. Lessons are primarily from textbooks and computer exercises, with a few lectures. Students learn the importance of independent work, and manage their own time to ensure that they complete all program modules before graduation.
Course Objectives
This curriculum provides students with the ability to perform the Microsoft Office functions needed in a professional setting, as well as general computer skills used in an office. Students learn how to:
* Create and edit documents, business letters, and memorandums
* Create reports, flyers, and work with tables
* Create worksheets/spreadsheets with basic formulas and functions
* Format cell content within a worksheet, work with dates and text features, and restructure worksheets
* Send and receive email, organize contact information within MS Outlook, and use Calendar, Task and Note functions
* Create relational databases, work with a database window, enter and edit records, and preview and print database sheets
* Create a professional PowerPoint slide presentation that utilizes animation features
* Run programs and manage files within Windows XP
* Know how to navigate the Internet through web browsers, and save favorite web pages
* Efficiently research information on the Internet
