Administrative Support


If you are looking to become a strong administrative support professional who can complete essential office procedures within a variety of office settings then this course is designed for you.  It focuses on Microsoft Office 2007 software, with an emphasis on MS word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.

 

Prerequisites

Prior to enrolling students must complete Intake and Assessment process.  In order to benefit from the Administrative Support course, students should possess a minimum seventh-grade skill level in reading comprehension and a sixth-grade level in Mathematics. Students must also be 18 years of age upon completion of the program.

Course Description

This course takes students through Microsoft Office 2007 software and key office functions.  Students will learn essential computer concepts, typing, Ten-Key skills, and various software applications, such as the business uses of the Internet, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, and more.

The Administrative Support course is self-paced and combines lectures, workshops, independent study which allows students to advance according to their abilities.  Students learn the importance of independent work, and manage their own time to ensure that they complete all program modules before graduation.

Course Objectives

In this course, students learn how to:

  • Create and edit documents, business letters, and memorandums
  • Create reports, flyers, and work with tables
  • Create worksheets/spreadsheets with basic formulas and functions
  • Format cell content within a worksheet, work with dates and text features, and restructure worksheets
  • Create relational databases, work with a database window, enter and edit records, and preview and print database sheets
  • Create a professional PowerPoint slide presentation that utilizes animation features
  • Send and receive email, organize contact information within MS Outlook, and use Calendar, Task, and Note functions
  • Run programs and manage files within Windows XP
  • Know how to navigate the Internet through web browsers, and save favorite web pages

Accounting Concepts Elective

Those who excel in this course will have the opportunity to take the Accounting Principles elective class.  This module introduces key accounting concepts, such as, accounts payable/receivable, balance sheets, preparing financial statements, HR and QuickBooks.
